If you ever watch a baseball game, seeing the reactions of the (arguably) most active person on the field tells you a lot about them, how they pitch, and how the game is going. Wirick captures that feeling, whether it's the seriousness of Mathewson, the joy of Kershaw, or the soulful look from Babe Ruth, still young and not yet on the course to make him the greatest who ever played the game.
If you like baseball, you should try to pick up a copy of the book, as Wirick does a magnificent job of capturing the spirit of the various pitchers she illustrates, and like everything else she draws, there’s a lot of emotion in her drawings. I really liked her four pages on Sandy Koufax, and I think she did a great job capturing both his enigmatic personality and his immense will.
Why pitchers? We just don't know, but here's a book full of them. Featuring Christy Mathewson, Eri Yoshida, Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson, Dizzy Dean, Walter Johnson and Satchel Paige. 20 pages, 5.5x8.5", all full color.
The Pictures of Pitchers series just can't be stopped. This volume includes Zack Greinke, Mo'ne Davis, Walter Johnson, Bob Feller, Babe Ruth, José Fernández, Whitey Ford, and Clayton Kershaw. 20 pages, 5.5x8.5", all full color.
